Eleven Ace 11 Plus Testimonials & Reviews
My daughter Rahel enjoyed her 11+ tuition classes with Eleven Ace especially for English! She got really good score for all her tests. The mock tests she did also helped her to improve her confidence for her exams. My son is also finding his Coding sessions advantageous. Would recommend Eleven Ace to all!
One Programme That Speaks to Every Board
Reading comprehension sits at the heart of every one of these assessments. The skills we build are universal — the techniques we teach are tailored to each format's specific demands.
Comprehension Is Where Most Marks Are Lost — and the Easiest to Improve
Children who read well still lose marks on comprehension papers. The reason isn't lack of ability — it's that each exam board asks questions differently, rewards different types of answers, and penalises the same mistakes in different ways. Without knowing the specific landscape they're walking into, even strong readers leave marks on the table.
Not Reading the Question TypeStudents dive into an answer without recognising whether they're being asked to retrieve, infer, explain, or evaluate — each requires a completely different approach.
Copying Instead of AnsweringA common trap: lifting text directly from the passage and assuming it will score marks. Examiners reward understanding and paraphrasing, not transcription.
Ignoring the Mark Scheme LogicDifferent boards allocate marks differently. A two-mark question at CSSE expects something very different from a two-mark question on a GL paper.
Poor Time ManagementStudents spend too long on early questions and rush the later, higher-value ones. Without a pacing strategy, even capable readers under-perform in timed conditions.
Weak Vocabulary in ContextComprehension papers increasingly test whether students can work out the meaning of unfamiliar words from context — a skill that must be explicitly taught and practised.
No Strategy for InferenceInference questions are where marks are won and lost. Students who haven't been shown how to 'read between the lines' systematically often guess — or leave them blank.
What We Cover Across Both Sessions
Every element of our programme is deliberately chosen to address what comprehension exams actually test. We don't teach reading generally — we teach the specific skills examiners reward, across every major format.
Question-Type Recognition
We teach students to identify and categorise question types the moment they read them — retrieval, inference, language analysis, structure, authorial intent. Each type has a strategy.
- Retrieval: locate, confirm, quote precisely
- Inference: evidence + reasoning = answer
- Language: effect on reader, not just what it means
- Evaluation: opinion backed by textual evidence
Board-Specific Strategies
Each exam board has a distinctive format. We give students a specific playbook for the boards they're targeting — so they aren't navigating blind on exam day.
- GL: multiple choice elimination technique
- CEM: cloze & verbal reasoning approach
- CSSE/FSCE: extended written answer structure
- Independent/ISEB: dual-extract comparison
Timed Reading & Pacing
We introduce the "skim, scan, deep-read" method — a structured approach to reading the passage before touching the questions that prevents the most common time-wasting habits.
- Skim for structure and topic (60 seconds)
- Scan for answer location before writing
- Mark-allocation pacing: time per mark
- Full timed simulation on Day 2
Vocabulary in Context
Inference extends to language too — we teach students to derive meaning from context, comment on word choice with precision, and build a flexible vocabulary that serves them across formats.
- Context clue strategies
- Connotation vs denotation
- Word choice effect questions
- Figurative language in comprehension

Understanding the landscape before you enter it is half the battle. Here's what your child is actually facing — and what we do about each one.
| Exam Board | Format | Question Style | Key Challenge |
|---|---|---|---|
| GL | Multiple choice + short answer | Retrieval, vocabulary, inference | Elimination under time pressure; deceptive distractors |
| CEM | Cloze passages + verbal reasoning | Synonyms, antonyms, sentence completion | Vocabulary range & speed; no extended answers |
| CSSE | Long passage + extended written answers | Inference, language analysis, explanation | Structuring written responses to hit mark scheme points |
| FSCE | Extended passage + mixed question types | Comprehension, inference, effect questions | Balancing retrieval and analytical responses |
| QE | Bespoke written paper | Comprehension + reasoning & writing skills | Integrated literacy — comprehension feeds writing |
| Sutton | Selective entry paper | High-inference + analytical questions | Sophisticated inference; demands textual precision |
| Independent | ISEB pre-test / school-set paper | Extract comparison, authorial intent | Variable format; dual extract questions |
| HB | Henrietta Barnett selective entry | Comprehension, creative writing, reasoning | High-level inference; creative response under pressure |
Two Specialists.
One Mission.
This programme is delivered by two members of the Eleven Ace teaching team who specialise in literacy and 11+ comprehension. We designed this programme together — every session, every resource, every piece of feedback comes from both of us working in tandem.
Ted architects the learning journey for each cohort. He brings deep knowledge of how every major exam board structures its comprehension paper, ensuring the programme equips students with strategies that translate directly to marks on exam day.
Rajshree leads the student-facing side of comprehension practice. She works closely with each child during passage exercises, identifying the specific patterns in their responses — whether over-copying, under-inferring, or misreading question demands — and correcting them in real time.
“Comprehension is the paper that parents most often tell us 'she reads well, so she should be fine.' And every time, we gently explain that reading well is the starting point, not the destination. What exams test is not whether a child can read a passage — it's whether they can decode what the question is actually asking, locate and construct the right kind of answer, and do all of this reliably under time pressure. That's what we spend two days building.

Why We Built This Programme
Here's what we guarantee when you trust us with your child's preparation.
100% Exam-Focused
We've built every exercise, passage, and technique around what GL, CEM, CSSE, FSCE, QE, Sutton, Independent and HB examiners specifically look for. Your child learns to answer what scores marks.
£15 for 4 Hours
Most 11+ sessions cost £40–£80/hr. We deliver 4 hours of expert tuition for £15 total — including assessment, feedback, and take-home materials.
Active Cohort
We cap it at 30 students with 3 dedicated tutors. Every child gets individual feedback, personal guidance, and attention to their specific weaknesses.
Every Board Covered
Whether your child is targeting GL, CEM, CSSE, FSCE, QE, Sutton, HB, or Independent schools, we give them a specific playbook for the boards they'll face.
From Uncertain Reader to Strategic Examiner
We don't promise fluent readers will become perfect scorers in two days. What we do give every child is a systematic approach that makes their existing reading ability work much harder for them in exam conditions.
Before the Programme
Reads the passage, then guesses at each question type
Copies sentences from the text rather than answering in own words
Spends too long on easy retrieval, rushes higher-value questions
Doesn't understand what inference questions are really asking
No awareness of how marks are allocated
Different approach to every paper — inconsistent results
After the Programme
Reads questions first, then passage — with a purpose
Uses P-E-E to construct answers that hit marking points
Paces to marks — knows when to move on and come back
Applies the inference framework confidently and consistently
Knows the format, mark scheme, and question-type logic of their target board
A repeatable process for any passage, any board, any prompt
Everything Through Google Classroom
All materials, passage practice sets, homework submissions, and tutor feedback live in one familiar, accessible place. No apps to download, no printing, no scanning — works on any device.
Pre-Session MaterialsLesson slides, question-type guides, vocabulary lists, and board-specific strategy sheets shared ahead of each session.
Overnight Task SubmissionStudents complete and upload their passage practice between sessions — reviewed by both tutors before Day 2 begins.
Personalised Written FeedbackIndividual comments on every piece of work, noting specific question-type patterns and actionable improvements.
Take-Home Practice BankA resource library of comprehension passages, question sets, and strategy guides — organised by board — remains accessible long after the programme ends.
The Pre-Workshop Reading Assessment
Before Session 1 on Saturday, every enrolled student completes a short reading task we set via Google Classroom. This gives us a clear picture of where each child is starting from — their reading strengths, their question-type weaknesses, and how they currently approach a comprehension paper.
A short comprehension passage with mixed question types, sent via Google Classroom after you enrol. Takes around 20–25 minutes. No preparation needed — we want to see your child's natural approach, not a polished performance.
They complete and upload their answers before the first session on Saturday. Google Classroom works on any device — laptop, tablet, or smartphone. No printing required.
Ted and Rajshree review every submission before Day 1 begins. We look at question-type patterns, vocabulary handling, and inference quality — and we use this to shape exactly how we teach across both sessions.
Why This Matters
The pre-work gives our team critical insight before day one:
- Assess current reading level
- Identify question-type weaknesses
- Tailor exercises to the group
- Deliver personalised feedback
- Maximise the 4-hour window
Two Days. Deliberate Progression.
Day 1 builds the framework — understanding text types, question categories, and answer construction. Day 2 applies everything under exam conditions, with specific board-format practice and a full timed simulation.
Day 1 – Framework & Foundations
Saturday, 18th April 2026We show students exactly what marking looks like across GL, CEM, CSSE & FSCE — what counts as a correct answer, and what doesn't.
Retrieval, inference, vocabulary in context, language analysis, structure, and evaluation. Each type with examples and a strategy.
How to read a passage efficiently, what to mark and why, and how to build a mental map of the text before answering.
Full passage with live tutor support. We model our thinking aloud — showing the decision process behind each question. Individual written feedback given.
Self-review checklist to evaluate answers. Overnight practice passage set via Google Classroom.
Day 2 – Application & Exam Mastery
Sunday, 19th April 2026Anonymised group review of overnight submissions, highlighting the most common error patterns.
CEM cloze technique, GL multiple-choice elimination, CSSE/FSCE extended response structure, and Independent/ISEB extract comparison.
The "I can tell that… because…" framework. Separating observation from deduction and avoiding the most common inference trap.
Complete comprehension paper under real exam conditions: no tutor guidance, full time pressure. Marked together with individual written feedback.
What we've covered, your child's specific areas for development, and a clear practice plan for the weeks ahead. Both tutors present.
What Families Tell Us
“My son is a strong reader but kept dropping marks on comprehension. After the programme he came home and said 'I finally understand what they're actually asking.' That shift in how he reads questions was immediately visible in his practice papers.”
“We're preparing for both GL and an independent school and I wasn't sure one programme could cover both. It did. Ted and Rajshree explained the differences clearly — my daughter now adjusts her approach depending on which format she's practising.”
“The P-E-E framework alone was worth the price of the programme three times over. She now structures every comprehension answer that way — her scores on practice papers have been noticeably more consistent since.”
