About the Bromley 11+
Two Schools, Two Tests
Bromley has 2 grammar schools — Newstead Wood School (girls) and St Olave's Grammar School (boys) — both located in Orpington. They do not form a consortium and do not share a common test. Each school runs its own independent admissions process with different test providers and formats.
Newstead Wood uses GL Assessment with two multiple-choice papers in Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning only — no English or Maths. A minimum qualifying score of 210 is required, with a 9-mile priority radius.
St Olave's uses a bespoke two-stage test written by the school. Stage 1 is a multiple-choice screening in English, Maths, VR, and NVR. The top 450 candidates sit Stage 2 — written papers in English and Maths. Despite being a Church of England school, no faith requirement applies for admission.

Stage 1 is a 1-hour multiple-choice paper covering English, Maths, VR, and NVR (~60 questions). The top 450 candidates are invited to Stage 2 — two written papers of 1 hour each in English (comprehension and creative writing) and Maths (problem-solving). No fixed pass mark — places by rank order. Despite Church of England status, no faith requirement for admission. Up to 10 Pupil Premium places. No catchment area — distance used only as a tiebreaker.
